Ever wondered what an e-ink display looks like disassembled?

Well... Neither had we until one of the screens we'd been working with accidentally broke and one of the specialists working Lapland UAS decided to see what made it tick. The unit in question can display not only black and white, but also red. Apparently the ink smelled wonderful.

The displays are really fragile with a glass panel within the sandwich structure. The glass cracked and started producing interesting images before giving up the ghost, which resulted in the autopsy above.

The display is planned to be powered by an energy harvesting power solution with low power MCU controlling the display. Stay tuned for updates!
